To no mere man of arms in heaven was given…

His shall it be whose arm shall strike through heaven

A fearless fear, like to a strange cold flame.

Shall the Greater One come whose fierce course, driven

Over nations and men shall make time riven

In twain and troubled, like a madman’s game.

The Greater One awaits that he shall cease

His power, to come, with subtler arms than arms

And round mere power throw coils of power, like seas

Encroaching on the land relentlessly.

No. The Great Hour hath not come yet when charms

Shall not avail against the silent sea.

I speak strange sense, which means no meaning now

Unto ears blurred to meanings thin and frail

Yet whose dread meaning like a light doth fail

Along the sudden subterranean slough.
