Under a low and sullen sky,
Fanned through[1] by lone winds that moan by
And palely sick for light from high,
Till th’ landscape’s soul doth sigh forever

And in that landscape lapse from dream
|Unto a horror[4] of truth doth gleam
That self-absorbed, |self-empty| stream

On foreheads fevered with life…

Arched me by this whom leaves
Fall even into its head…

Whisper my soul to bed?

Twas wandering by that river its side
And seeing its nameless glide
And yet eternally abide
That I leaned wide despair
Mute despair wide
For all that is {…} or fair
Or {…}
