Arquivo virtual da Geração de Orpheu

Almada Negreiros e Sarah Affonso

Thought was born blind, but thought knows what is seeing.

A darkened sense of forms, of what forms are

Lights up its sense of its[1] blindness, and prior being

To dreams of sight that stirs his blind-man’s care.

___

It moves its fingers over the form of things

And for features ekes a tract[2] of motion

Of what they are, half-eye’s[3] imaginings

That fill sight’s void with seeing-thought’s emotion

Sometimes its blind eyes sun-struck[4]

(Kneel to the thought; oh soul!) dream that thy see

To some untouched contour imagined far. I. 4.

Camilo Pessanha

Tatuagens opulentas do meu peito:

Timbre; rompante, a megalomania...

Now have the strike regret to disappear

Recalling joy’s joy

Not its being – but its mien

3

Alas, all this is useless, for joy’s in

Enjoying not in thinking of enjoying

In the reflected thought its reflection doth seem

Against life by mere reflecting

Yet the more thought we take even to prove

We must not think, doth further for joy move

3

We see the light is wider, yet light none,

And, asking none the more can be the less,

On that desk we seek an invisible shore

That shall explain by light the lightness.

Thought knows things can be seen, it knows its night

As darkness, whence

(Kneel to the thought, oh soul!)

Then comes an inner sense of sight

{…} a vision of vision

_______

And in the isle of light in all night

|Sees not but sees seeing[5].|

Its idea-seeing[6] sees not things but sight.

And though the idea of light hidden in all night
