In the lunar lagon

Of the forgotten breeze.

✓3 His music strange did fret

     Each heart to wish 'twas free.

4 It was not a melody, yet

     It was not no melody.

 

The wife remembered the lover

     She had seen but in dreams[1]

5 She pondered her lost life over

     And was unfaithful… in dreams.

 

As he came he went.

10   They heard him but half‑be.

Then he was quietly blent

     With silence and memory.

Sleep fell in[2] their laughter

     Their tranced hope ceased to last.

And but a small time after

     They knew not he had passed.
