Having often remarked in the spare pages of the cheap editions you publish, a brief statement of the object of your association, and holding that object to be meritorious, I should very much desire, if possible, to become a member. But, as I know the conditions of membership only from the earlier of your publications, such as Laing’s exposition of modern science and thought, and having moreover not been in connection with England in regard to current literature for almost a year, during which, for all I know, you may have made changes in your organization, I beg to apply herein for as full particulars as you can give me.
