Alexander Search – Dreams

[BNP/E3, 791 – 4v]

Dreams.

Each day that passes by I ponder on

And pondering whom it {…} it doth betray

That while it livèd nothing have I won

From the vile dungheaps of my soul’s decay.

E’en from Dreams my life doth ebb away

And I left naked on the sands alone

Deplored that being yet I could[1] not stay

Upon the rapid world of[2] action

Most probably 2/2/07.

There is a beauty in the world without,

In all the sight of mountain and of plain

That is a balm to sickness and to doubt,

But oh! the Beauty that in dreams doth reign

Which never Word nor poems could figure out

Nor human mind not itself could feign!

Alexander Search.
