The Dr. looked with some attention at the conductor; then he suddenly said:

I am unable to say if the conductor made any mistaken in the |*trick| and for that {…} to the end of the map, but for the expression on his countenance I am convinced that he did. A friend of mine who saw him 2 days after this told me that something like the shadow of a † seemed to lay on the conductor’s face.
