Dr. Gaudêncio Nabos – [Trecho sobre Dr. Gaudêncio Nabos]

[BNP/E3, 2721L4 – 5]

_______

One thing which to a certain extent my friend Dr. Nabos possessed was a singular half-real, half-affected lack of consideration for others.

An example shows all, a simple[1] but striking one:

Once in a railway-carriage a lady was sitting on the same bench as the Doctor when a gush of cold wind blew in through the window. The lady then shivered slightly and Nabos, who perceived the shiver, immediately closed the window. The lady rightly understood the polite perception of the Doctor and thanked him. “Oh, don’t mention it,” said Nabos “I only closed the window because I was feeling cold.”

This extremely awkward way of putting aside thanks, ungracious, yet not fundamentally very ill-meant is an ample indication of that singularity of that sight of the Doctor’s character.
