[BNP/E3, 2721L4 – 1]
One of these days I called upon my friend Dr. Nabos, in his consulting room, to obtain his opinion upon a headache that had been troubling on for a long time. As these were several people then whose turn would be before mine, I seized upon some illustrated papers of the fashionable kind and, according to my custom, commenced on half-attentive inspection of the illustrations. I went through them all in a vague way; but when I had set them down again on the table, their contents seized readily on my brain.

What struck me most in these papers was the variety of poses in the portraits; which led me to some very disagreeable thoughts on the stupid variety of men.
