The true mask[1] feels no inside to the mask

But sees out of the mask by co-masked eyes.

Whatever consciousness begins the task

The task's accepted use |to sleepness| ties[2].

Like a child frighted by its mirrored faces,

Our souls, that children are, knowledge being none,[3]

Foist otherness upon their seen grimaces

And get a whole world on their forgot causing;

And when we’d unmask our masked {…} with {…}

The way thought is not unmasked[4]

|If my soul could be parted from the seen

My soul of sense has, and, still more unfooled,

Unmasked be of self-knowledge of pretence

To self-unmasking, would be still unschooled

If my soul could be parted from the seen

My soul of sense has, and till owners lied[5]

It might perchance be fooled by the[6] pretence

It makes itself with, be a fool self-schooled
