When I consider the superabundance of young men and the great number of young women in the present century, when I survey the necessary and consequent profusion of reciprocal attachments, when I reflect upon the exuberance of poetical compositions emanating therefrom, when I bring my mind to bear upon the insanity and chaotic formation of these effusion, I readily convince myself that by writing an expository essay of the poetical art I shall be greatly contributing to the emolument of the public.
Having therefore carefully considered the best and most practical way in which to open such a relevant discussion, I have most wisely concluded that a straightforward statement of the rules {…}

And we did question and discuss and quote
Full with a fear made {…} with solitude
|*Pounder we did pounder {…} boat|
That on the tranquil waters seemed to board
Yet with a motion full of solitude
And we recalled phantastic legends crude
And things with natural things unreconciled

Before the rear’s interminable extent
Our crazy eyes and {…} were dark
The sky was cloudless and the {…} dark

Quando considero a abundância de jovens rapazes e o grande número de jovens mulheres no presente século, quando examino a necessária e consequente profusão de vínculos recíprocos, quando reflicto sobre a exuberância de composições poéticas que daí emanam, quando sou levado a considerar a insanidade e a formação caótica destas efusões, estou prontamente convencido de que ao escrever um ensaio expositivo da arte poética estarei contribuindo consideravelmente para o proveito do público.
Tendo, por conseguinte, considerado cuidadosamente a melhor e mais prática forma de abrir uma discussão tão relevante, concluí de um modo muito sensato que uma afirmação directa das regras {…}

E questionámos e discutimos e citámos
Repletos de um medo feito {…} de solidão
|{…} reflectimos {…} barco|
Que em águas tranquilas parecia embarcar
Porém com um movimento cheio de solidão
E lembrámo-nos de fantásticas lendas brutais
E as coisas com coisas naturais irreconciliadas
Barcos fantásticos e ilhas {…} selvagens
