Dr. Freeman’s sterling fault is his absence of imagination. He repeats situations, repeats types of criminals, repeats types of stories. The repetition is sometimes incredibly repetitive. Every reader of Dr. Freeman will have been shocked with the duplication represented by “The Silent Witness” and “The Darblay Mystery”. He even duplicates his love themes, as also his thrilling incidents, both of which, by the bye, should have escaped duplicability by non-existence.
